Now, Odel is in the studio preparing his sophomore release. As a musician, Odel is in high demand. He has been a percussionist for the legendary Reggae production team Sly & Robbie.
He recently played drums on the albums of late roots and culture Reggae icon Mikey Dread (Life Is a Stage, 2007), Reggae Cowboys (Wild West Indian), Jay Douglas (Touch of Magic, 2007), Chris Bottomley (Cerebral Lubrication, 2004), and Los Angeles Hip Hop group
People Under The Stairs (OST (Original Soundtrack), 2002).
He received a Juno Award (Canada’s version of the Grammy Awards) in 1998 for his role recording and touring with Messenjah for their album Catch De Vibe.
Odel has been active on the performance circuit, including recent high profile appearances at the Ragga Muffins Festival (Long, Beach, California), Calgary International Reggae Festival, Montreal International Reggae Festival and a tour in Israel.
In 1997, Odel moved to Los Angeles for several years to work with Fully Fullwood, the famous bass player best-known for his brilliant work with Peter Tosh. Together, they toured extensively and globally with Joe Higgs, Dennis Brown, Michael Rose, The Mighty Diamonds, Andrew Tosh, Mikey Dread and Scientist among many others. Being among this group of Reggae greats provided Odel with a musical inspiration to pursue his solo career.

So how did this journey begin? At a very young age, while growing up in St. Ann,
Jamaica during the socially and politically charged 1970s, Odel was drawn to the
African kette drum. During his teens, he had a stint in the Army cadet, during which
time he learned military-style drumming. Fast forward to the 1980s, Odel found
himself contributing his Reggae flavour to New York City’s punk movement, where he
performed regularly at Manhattan’s renowned underground rock club, CBGB.
While driven by his love for music, Odel is equally as passionate about spirituality
and community development. He was baptized in the Ethiopian Orthodox church in
Addis Ababa. He received an Order of Merit from the city of Addis Ababa in 2003 for
his work with Hohete Tesfa, a youth development organization that supports street
children in Ethiopia. Locally, Odel conducts drumming sessions and songwriting
workshops with elementary school children through community programs, and
donates his time and talent regularly for community fundraisers and benefit concerts.
Odel makes his home in Toronto, Canada, where he operates his music production
company, Obelisk Entertainment. Since the release of Mind & Body Sold, Odel has
been busy writing, producing and collaborating with other artists to create his
upcoming sophomore album.
With lofty comparisons to Lucky Dube and Peter Tosh, Odel has set his sights
firmly set on the never-ending pursuit of the musical mission of “freementality”. Stay
