Biography of Hewdie

Hewdie is a storyteller. His music is a cross between traditional folk and blues and more contemporary singer-songwriters.

"One hell of a talent" concluded Fret Magazine (NL). "Hewdie turns minimalism into art" said Oor Magazine, the leading Dutch music magazine in their review of "Outsider Blues", Hewdie's first full length album.

Hewdie was born as Peet Didderiens in the southernmost province of Limburg, near the town of Roermond. Peet is influenced by folk, blues and jazz and he is a big fan of Sixties west coast groups like Buffalo Springfield and Moby Grape.

Peet started playing the guitar in his late teens and wrote a song with the first two chords he learned. Having paid his dues with psychedelic rock outfit Digestives, he moved to mellower musical pastures in the mid-nineties. playing folky indie and roots music in a succession of bands which disbanded with a handful of gigs and cassette-only releases to their credit.

Attempts to start a new band in 2001 failed, but the proposed bandname "Hewdie" stuck and Peet began using it for his solo work as a singer-songwriter. Debut single "Cold Eyes" was released in 2004 followed two years later by a mini album titled "Bye Bye Melancholy Baby".

"Outsider Blues" (2010) marked a change to a more narrative style of writing. More refined melodically and less stark than "Bye Bye Melancholy Baby", the album garnered good reviews and the first pressing of the cd sold out quickly.

Peet is currently putting the finishing touches on a new album. "Under The Moon And Stars" was made with the help of a number of guest musicians, including Brian "Fuzzy B" Frederiks on bass, Gertjan Hanckmann on percussion and ex-Digestives singer Bas Veldhuizen on harmony vocals.
