Biografie van Grain
Grain (from Rotterdam, NL) delivers a variety of intense songs with cynical, dark humour and theatricality. Alternative, rebellious pop with content as in PJ Harvey meets Tori Amos.
Grain continues where female singer-songwriters from the early 90s left off. Her voice is deep and clear, cynical and lyrical. She plays with pure emotions and expectations.
Her debut album called Shut your mouth, Kevin which is recorded in the Netherlands and New York, with Dennis Leeflang (Bumblefoot, Sun Caged, Within Temptation, Lita Ford) on drums, Barend Courbois (Vengeance, Steve Fister..) on bass, Brian Sanders on cello and Wilco Botermans on theremin has been released the 22nd of june 2009.
In 2004 Grain went to Amsterdam to study Music at the Pop Academy of the Conservatory. Beside the regular singing lessons, she also followed classical singing lessons.
In these years she developed an authentic style of writing songs, where musical influences from her youth and the present, daily or unusual experiences and extraordinary visions of life come together in a fascinating way.
On the SYMK cd cover Grain is dressed by Dutch couturier Edwin Oudshoorn. This has led to a mutual collaboration on occasion. Grain is playing live at some of Edwins fashion exhibitions and if youre lucky you can see her wearing one of his creations during concerts!
